This theses focuses on Olga Krijtova (1931-2013), Czech translator from Dutch. The aim is to introduce Olga Krijtova within the framework of reception of Dutch literature in Czech cultural environment. In order to explore this framework, the thesis compares Czech and Dutch culture from translatological point of view, outlines the history of Czech-Dutch relationshiops and Dutch literary translations into Czech, as well as the history and current state of the academic discipline of Dutch studies. In the 20th century, Olga Krijtova had contributed greatly to making the Dutch literature available for Czech recipients. The thesis aims to find out how many translations done between the years 1957-2016 are Krijtova's or her students' work. Further, it summarizes her teaching and linguistic work. However, the main focus is her translation activities, which is studied by means of translation analysis in the second part of the thesis. The final aim is to review and interpret Krijtova's translation strategies and methods, as well as to assess her overall contribution to the reception of Dutch literature within the Czech environment and to the Dutch studies in the Czech Republic. Fay Weldon's Short Stories- Translation and Commentary

This Diploma thesis is concerned with a translation of one of the stories written by an author Fay Weldon from the book Nothing to Wear, Nowhere to Hide (2002). The theoretical part aims to introduce the topic of a translation with its forms, analyze the process of translator's work using models of translation based on theories from several important linguists and apply the knowledge in the practical part on one of the short stories with the following commentary. Also, it aims to develop the skills acquainted during the study of translation and develop knowledge in literary translation.

Annotated translation: Maite Carranza - Palabras Envenenadas. Barcelona, Edebé, 2010

The aim of this Master Thesis is to provide the reader with an annotated literary translation of the book Palabras Envenenadas written by the Spanish author Maite Carranza. The first part of the thesis presents in total of 6 translated chapters of the novella Palabras Envenenadas. The second part focuses on presenting the information about the author and the style of the book as well as the role of the original and the translatated text in the source and target culture context, the development of the translation analysis and translation methods while discussing the translation problems and their solutions. Current Trends in the French Children's Literature

The beginning section of this thesis named Current Trends in the French Children's Literature is focused on a terminology concerning key theoretical terms in children's literature. Further content is focused on the history of children's literature, including a brief overview of the period and examples of the key works. There is a list of Major international and French literary prizes given to authors of children's books. The complex relationship between author and reader was also examined. The next part of the thesis is primarily focused on a literary analysis of three French novels for teenagers published at the beginning of the 21st century: Toby Alone by Timothée de Fombelle, La vie, en gros by Mikaël Ollivier and Oscar and the Lady in Pink by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt. Emphasis is put not only on basic characteristics of contemporary children's literature but also on the singularity of these literary works. The problems of literary translation from French into a quite other language are covered in the final part of the thesis. The translator has to move a literary text into the target language and carry the distinctive character of a work, its idioms and tone. A Night at the Tarn House: a translation and stylistic analysis of G. R. R. Martin's short story

This bachelor thesis deals with literary translation from English into Czech. It is divided into three major parts. The first part describes the theoretical bases; it outlines types of translation as well as the fundamental principles and methods of translation. Also, possible impediments of literary translation are discussed. The theoretical part also briefly introduces a short story written by American author G. R. R. Martin A Night at the Tarn House. The practical part consists of the translation of a part of the short story from English to Czech. The last part, which is further divided into individual linguistic levels, presents the analysis of the translated text and comments on the practical solutions in the translated text as well as on some of the issues mentioned in the theoretical part. The aim of this thesis is an attempt to translate a part of an authentic literary text and examine the typological differences between the two languages that possibly pose a problem.

The Gift: The translation and stylistic analysis of a passage from Louise Jensen's novel

This bachelor thesis is divided into two major parts - the practical and theoretical part. The introduction to this thesis seeks to outline the fundamental principles and methods of translation whose examination helped me throughout my decision as to which method or methods to apply in the process of translating the chosen part. The practical part consists of the translation from English language to Czech language of the novel written by British author Louise Jensen. The chosen part of the novel was selected for its linguistic peculiarities which are furthermore examined in the following theoretical part. Theoretical part is further divided into individual linguistic levels to which examples of my translation from the practical part are assigned.
